17...yay... Oklahoma!!!

16 was a little over rated :) But I did have a great Birthday yesterday! We traveled back from a scouting trip at Beavers Bend, Oklahoma. I had a really good time. We didn't do it all, but there was horse back riding, tennis, golf, swimming, fly fishing (which Tyler loved), kayaking, canoeing, nature trails, and we saw so many deer! We never see deer in this part of Texas. We saw several Does with fawns too. Tyler got so annoyed when I said "We saw a baby fawn!" He said it was like saying "We saw a fawn fawn!" Haha! Some people are sensitive I guess. :) And Adam had a good time because The Fifa World Cup is going on right now. He basically watched soccer the whole three days. What ever floats your boat I suppose. I went on nature hikes and took pictures and collected rocks. Here are some for your enjoyment.

Cake Decorating Class at Hobby Lobby

I've had two classes and I'm about to go for my third one tomorrow. I absolutly love it! It's art you can eat! Who would like that?

So... I forgot to make the royal icing that I was supposed to bring to class to practice piping with... so my teacher (very nice lady from England) sent me home with well, homework. :) To Practice the flowers that she showed us in class. Of course I just had to make a cake for Pot-Luck at church, *wink wink* why not decorate it?

Summer Modesty

I just read an article that was written by Scot Brown, in 2004. () But it certainly still applies today! Here is a list that he made about modesty in America throughout the years.

1890’s: Swimwear was modified street clothing 1910: Arms were exposed

1920: You would be arrested if you appeared in a modest 21st century bathing suit

1920’s: Legs and backs were exposed

1930’s: Cleavage was exposed and men began to swim bare chested

1935: Two piece bathing suits appeared with a small break between upper and lower half

1940’s: New fabrics appeared which hugged the body

1960’s: Navels were exposed

Today: Anything goes... One piece suits with fabrics like skin that really leaves nothing to the imagination and bikinis of various categories prevail as normal.

(Amy) Sadly, most Christan's think that a one piece bathing suit is super modest. That low cut, form fitting, and most of the leg showing is just fashion, and fashion is neutral. Well ladies, it's not. Swim wear is just a front for public nakedness. Please do not give in.

Having two older brothers has helped me considerably to realize what men have to go through when we dress immodestly. We might think that it is a really cute top, but it causes our brothers to fall into temptation (by showing to much skin, being to tight &c). I believe that is a weakness for woman. Of course the men should practice self control, but we do not need to make it harder for them to control their thought life. This section is from a really great book that I have heard about, I think it might cement the point that I'm trying to make.

"Girls, you have an equally important role. Remember the wayward woman we discussed earlier? Your job is to keep your brothers from being led astray by her charms. Please be aware of how easily your actions and glances can stir up lust in a guy’s mind.

You may not realize this, but we guys most commonly struggle with our eyes. I think many girls are innocently unaware of the difficulty a guy has in remaining pure when looking at a girl who is dressed immodestly. Now I don’t want to dictate your wardrobe, but honestly speaking, I would be blessed if girls considered more than fashion when shopping for clothes. Yes, guys are responsible for maintaining self control, but you can help by refusing to wear clothing designed to attract attention to your body.

I know the world tells you that if you have a nice body, you should show it off. And we men have only helped feed this mentality. But I think you can play a part in reversing this trend. I know many girls who would look great in shorter skirts or tighter blouses, and they know it. But they choose to dress modestly. They take the responsibility of guarding their brother’s eyes. To these women and others like them, I’m grateful.”

“and let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds” (Hebrews 10:24) It’s time to start seeing other people’s purity as our responsibility."

Arab Confrance

This is an email that I sent to my cousin. I already wrote it down, why not just let you read it? (and save me the trouble of re-writing it :)

Sorry it took so long to write back. We just got back from a Christian Arab conference. We helped with the children, teaching bible classes, doing crafts, playing games outside and playing with little babies with big, brown, Arab eyes.

Tyler (my brother) was so funny when he was helping with the nursery. He loves little kids. He said "What do you get when you put chubby, and Arab together?... A cherub!" Lol. And their language is so beautiful, I could listen to it all day. (which I kinda did)

We were at a camp where they had a lake and cabins (with air conditioning) and a Cafeteria. I had so much fun! I got to teach a class on "King Nebecanezzer and the Writing on the Wall."

Mr. _________ (I can't say his name because he is undercover. He escaped from Iraq, that's how we know about all the Arab activities) bought the volunteers sooooooooo many snacks! We couldn't have eaten all the snacks if there were twice as many people as we had. And then the next day he bought some more!!! So... the girls had a plan as how we could finish some of them off.

We got so many sodas and candies and chips and loaded the Allens car (Sami Jo-18 Emaline-17 Tirza-16 McKenna-13) and had a blast staying up late. (only till 11:00 because we had to be up early) We were so slap happy if someone did the slightest thing funny we'd laugh for about 10 minutes! We had the Allens, Aaron (shes 16) me and Maris (shes 14) in our cabin. And Tania was "The Grown up" I suppose. But she was nice and stayed up with us. (but she didn't eat anything so she stayed relatively sane)

The Allen family isn't really big on sugar, so they aren't used to eating it, let alone a ton in one night. So McKenna got really sugar high and we were laughing at her most of the time because she couldn't talk right and she giggled like she was drunk. It was so funny.

The grown ups got hotel rooms (which mom was happy about) And there was also a boys cabin which consisted of Tyler, Adam, and Tommy. He is married to my friend Charisa and they just had their first child. They named her Avia ("a" as the sound in "Austin"...and a short "i' sound) She is adorable! She's such a good baby. Charisa stayed home this time because of Avia, but she came last time.

When we had a water balloon fight Tommy dumped the bucket of water on me. It was funny at the time but it was really cold in the classroom! And all the little girls wanted to be in my lap at the same time. But it wasn't that bad. (at least it didn't last for more then 2 hours...)

I think I got sick from one of the younger girls that was hanging on me, I've lost my voice. So I am going to make myself a cup of tea.

Genesis 1:29

"Then God said, 'I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food.'"

This is a pumpkin plant that I started in-doors. (and yes it is in a Dicky's cup)

My Balloon Flower came back and I am so happy!

This is an example of why I like editing! But this picture is the only one that needed a little help. (I usually don't need to edit)

My Nasturtiums are blooming! But I didn't plant enough of them, so it looks really bad. But they are pretty little things aren't they?

Bean flowers.

Here they look good, but most of it has died and I only have three beans that are ready to eat. I am disappointed. :( But at least I have pictures!

How darling!
