Third Time's the Charm

Aria, has won the contest!

I will also send Jansen something, since she did have an advantage. Though I haven't decided what.

So, I have gone off a high dive before, it was three stories high. Very fun. But I have not snorkeled. :( But I want to! That's one of the things I want to do before I die, to go snorkeling or scuba diving in the Great Barrier Reef.

Thank you guys for participating! You make my blog a lot more fun!

*Ding Ding* Round Three!

We had another tie, so...

1. I love to snow board.
2. I love high diving.
3. I love snorkeling.

One thing on the list I have never done. Which one is it?

A Tie!

Well! It seams that we have a tie on our hands! Aria B. guessed 6, and Jansen R. guessed 8. It was 7! Very close guys :D

I just played the game "Two truths and a lie" at a Christmas party a couple days ago, and it was pretty fun. It's where I make three statements, and you will have to find the false one. Aria might have a slight advantage here because she has known me all her life :) I will try and make it really hard.

1. I have been out of the country three times.
2. I have never fainted.
3. I learned how to use the computer when I was 14.

Which is the lie?

Thanksgiving Holiday!

I have to say a big "Thank You" to Jansen, who wanted me to blog about my Thanksgiving!

We had a great one! :) It was not the usual, traditional Thanksgiving though. What I mean by "the usual" is spending the day with our extended family members. We just had a nice lunch at home, with Mom, Dad, Tyler and Adam. Also Paul Grobey spent the day with us as well. He is one of the singles in our church that dad mentors.

After lunch, we went to the Chins house, they were having a bunch of international students over for Chinese food, and Dad gave a presentation on how our Thanksgiving Holiday got started.

As a family, we have been going through "Of Plymouth Plantation" By William Bradford. It is fantastic. A great historical account of peril, excitement, intrigue, disease, and courageous men and women striving to live out lives free to worship the Creator. We were planning on getting to the actual feasting part before the 24th, but it didn't work out. :) We are still reading, and enjoying every minute of it!
I would encourage everyone to make it a Thanksgiving tradition!

Hope everyone had a great Holiday!

In Him,
~Amy K

~Contest for the Sunflower Painting~

On December 1st I will declare the winner of the contest, so don't wait to take a guess! If people tie, I will have to think of another contest just between those people :)

Good luck!

Step right up! Win your prize here!

Whoever can guess closest to the answer to my question, I will send you the sunflower painting shown in the post below! Yay! It would make a great gift to remind someone of summer time. And if you want, I can frame it in the color of your choice!

Okay, here's the question:
How many oil paintings I have done in my life?

(hint, I've only been oil painting for a couple years, and I don't do them that often)

I will only count your first guess, so search my blog, and answer carefully. :)

Contest?

I have discovered that painting small takes a lot longer then painting big. One of the reasons for this being it's incredibly hard to find a brush small enough in my teacher's art studio :) Here are two paintings that I have done this past month.

On several blogs I have seen people do giveaways and contests to make things more interesting for their readers. And since it is too hard to ship baked goods, I would like to give away the 5'' by 7" Sunflower as a prize to someone, but I can't think of a contest to do in order for one of my readers to win it. Maybe a riddle or a challenge of some sort.
Any ideas?

(I have already given away the iris painting)

Praise the Lord for Church family and repeat costomers

I made this for our church fall festival. It was the second time that I had used fondant on a cake. None of the stores around here had a pumpkin shaped pan, which is strange since it is harvest time. A bunt pan served the purpose well, after I cut out the small bumps out in between the larger ones.

This was such a cute idea, I just had to do it! These were the same people that I've made a cake for before, it was for their granddaughter Kennedy, she's turning 3 years old.  And the only reason that most of the purple circles are empty, is because I ran out of icing! :) The cake is completely covered in fondant, and the decorations are done in royal icing.

not even Solemon in all his glory clothed himself like one of these."

Labor Day Weekend~

The Blair's came for the weekend (they have 10 in their family but only 8 could come, we missed you Christa and Aleck!) and we had a blast! We swam, they came to church with us, we went to Bass Pro, and we went to the air port to send Asher off to California for some big important Tennis thingy. :) (Sorry Ash, I really have no idea what you are doing in Cali :) Here are some of the MILLIONS of pictures that I took.

The Blairs are coming!

I am feeling so much better! Thank you to those of you who prayed for me. I don't know what happened, I felt like a very old person who couldn't even open a bottle of water because the joints in my hands hurt so badly. But now it's like I never even had a problem. I'm so happy!

And I am extra happy right now, because our amazing friends the Blair's are coming for the weekend! I love Labor Day! Aria and I are going to make a carrot cake (if she wants to;) for potluck! And I will post pictures :D

A week or so ago we met the Austin family, they and worked with Adam while he was in College Station working on a feature film. We met them for dinner and then ice cream, and they were really nice! I hope I get to go to the San Antonio Christian Film Festival so I can see the documentary they plan to enter. It's going to be on the history of Labor Day.

I love you all, dearly!

Ciao!

My First Anniversary Cake

Since I decorate cakes sometimes for Potlucks at our church, people there know that I'm into that kind of thing. Mrs. Lidster asked me a few weeks ago if I would make an anniversary cake to celebrate her daughter's 2nd year of marriage. I was so happy to do it! She said that she wanted red velvet cake, because that was Shane's favorite, and pink flowers, because that's what Rachel wanted. So here it is! They just came and picked it up last night :)
On a more serious note, please pray for me. Every joint in my body feels tight, and it is excruciating to move anything. My knees, my elbows, fingers, toes, ankles, neck, and shoulders. I don't know what is going on. I have never had anything like this happen before. I thought it might be an allergic reaction to something, but I haven't eaten anything odd lately. Tyler told me to check my hair for ticks, and I didn't find any. I have colapsed twice today because my knees decided they didn't want to hold me up :) Please pray that I will be able to move without pain, and that we would figure out what the problem is.
In Christ,
Amy K

So many exciting things have been happening since I've been back from camp! (no pictures 'cause my camera broke... Waaaaa!) When I was gone, there was allot of work being done to fix up and clean out the gymnastic gym that Tyler and I used to attend so he could move his business there. And now Tyler is the owner of Apex, a tumbling and cheer gym!!! (apextumbling.com) Even though I have a very low tolerance for cheer leaders, and cheer moms, I run the office. On Sunday someone at church asked me what I did and what my job title was, and I didn't know! Haha! So I asked Tyler and he said I am the "Office Manager". Doesn't that make me sound so important? I have been working there since it opened, August 1st. I'm stoked to be able to work along side my brother there. He is an excellent employer.
Adam got back from being in College Station for a month, working on an independant film called "Indescribable". I think it will come out in a year or so. He was the head sound guy. It's been nice to be back together as a family again, and get back into our family worship time every day. It has been a great summer!!! But summer won't be over until our friends the Blairs come to visit us like they do every year on Labor Day :) Sefan Blair just visited us a few days ago, and he got to go see the gym and everything. Tyler even put him in the spotting belt on the trampoline and Stef did a back flip! And that's saying allot because he's so tall! (and not a gymnast :)

Here is a chocolate cake that I made for potluck last week. I also might have another cake job coming up! Yay!!!

Independence Day!

"The second day of July, 1776, will be the most memorable epoch in the history of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival. It ought to be comemerated as the day of deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God almighty. It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and iluminations, from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward forever more."

Titus 2 Study

I am sure most of the people who read my blog, (all three of them :) know what someone means when they say "A Titus 2 woman." It comes from Titus 2 verse 3-5, where it talks about how the older woman are to teach the younger woman how to spend their time, and how to act as to bring glory to God.

Titus 2

1 "But as for you, speak the things which are fitting for sound doctrine. 2 Older men are to be temperate, dignified, sensible, sound in faith, in love, in [a]perseverance.

3 Older women likewise are to be reverent in their behavior, not malicious gossips nor enslaved to much wine, teaching what is good, 4 so that they may [b]encourage the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, 5 to be sensible, pure, workers at home, kind, being subject to their own husbands, so that the word of God will not be dishonored."

The chapter we covered last night at church was "God's Call for Our Holiness." Honoring God in our appearance.

Some of the questions were:

  1. On what do I base my understanding of modesty, decency, and beauty?
  2. What are the principles that help me make appropriate choices in my outward appearance?

"But just as He who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do for it is written: "Be holy, because I am holy." 1 Peter 1:15-16

The book that we are going through is called ''The Titus 2 Woman Living a Godly Life" By Denton Bible Church. You can order one at titus2usa@dentonbible.org.

~My First Cake Decorating Job~

My friend Lindsey Patrick just had a swing dance birthday party! Huzzah! But unfortunately, I was unable to go because I was to be in Tennessee and then North Carolina. Cup cake toppers were requested of me and I was delighted to comply with the request! :D The Patricks ordered two dozen flowers and one dozen carrots, and I charged 50 cents a piece. I was very unsure of how they woule turn out because I had never made icing carrots before!
(They were going to put them on carrot cup cakes, if you couldn't guess that already :)
